Quilt Backs...

I posted earlier that I'm trying to figure out backs for my kids' 'winter' blankets.

So, I took them both to the fabric store with me on Saturday. I told my son that he needed to pick out 2 fabrics for himself...and he picked these.....Then I told him to pick out 2 fabrics for his sister...and he picked these...Now, to put them together.....

Another WIP

This is my daughter's top from my leftovers. She doesn't love it QUITE as much, but she still likes the heaviness of it :)
So, now I just have to go shopping for a back and decide how to finish them both :)

Smaller Bag

So, when I made the BIG bag the other day, I decided I liked the pattern, just not the size...
So I adjusted and came up with this one...I like it....but I'm still not sure it's the "perfect" size yet! Don't mind my color choices, it's just a practice one :)

WIP

I had some left-over jean squares and flannel and decided to make some "winter" quilts for my kids. I finished the top of this one for my son...it's just a top - and he's already sleeping with it and carrying it around the entire house! I think he likes it...
I am almost done with my daughter's top...then I have to decide how to put them together...

BIG bag

Yesterday while checking my favorite blogs, I saw this super cute tutorial for this bag...It's actually not a very hard pattern at all...just takes some time. You can check out the tutorial here.

So, I decided to try one. It was just a 'prototype', so I just used button holes instead of grommets and webbing instead of cording... I decided not to get all the "official" stuff until I decided if I was going to make more of them or not!
This bag is HUGE!!!!
And I am not exaggerating...it really is a huge bag! I am sitting here trying to decide what I could possibly use it for because it's that big...
Then I thought of all the celebs that carry around their stupid dogs in their carriers...so I put my "puppy" into my bag...she fits perfectly!!!
She is 15 months old...so that'll tell you how big the bag is. I was even able to pick her up and put her on my shoulder for a 'stroll' around the house! So, if you need a super big bag...here's one to try :)

Fixed Living Room Curtains!

So, we have always had curtains in our house, but they've always needed a little TLC. I finally had the time to give them what they needed...

BEFORE
AFTERIt's nice, because now my kids can't pull on them just by sitting down...and the ribbons keep them closed at night so people can't sneak-a-peek :)

Halloween Treat Bags

I was doing some blog jumping this morning and found this SUPER cute tutorial on how to make something called an "Itty Bitty Poochie Bag" on Moda Bake Shop (here). I thought it was such a super-cute idea that I wanted to try them out for Halloween Treat Bags...

My kids absolutely love them and have been carrying them around all day long.

Now, to give you a sense of just how BIG these bags are...I put them next to a TYPICAL box of crayons....
They are just the tiniest little things - but so much fun. It took some time to pin and sew on the ribbon - but too cute, don't you think?!?!

I also decided to adjust the pattern just a bit to see if maybe I could make something that I liked a little better if it was bigger...
...to be honest, I think I still like the smaller one better... But, I can't decide!!!
Any thoughts?!?!

Dress

About a year ago, my mom got me this really awesome dress pattern that is a 1 piece pattern and reversible...

I love putting my baby girl in dresses way more than in jeans...even in winter-time! So, I have started to create a ton of these.

Here is the first of the "series" of reversible, fun, winter dresses :)

Quilt Festival Spring 2009

Although not my favorite quilt of ALL time - this quilt is dearly loved in our house!!

Last year, my husband's work flew him to Japan for 3 months...and I needed a project! So, I decided to make a quilt for my son who was 2 and just moving into a big-boy bed...
This is what I came up with...I get asked all the time about the size of the quilt...and I don't have the exact measurements...but it fits his bed perfectly...without hanging over on any side. This way, he makes his bed more often!

I like this quilt because it was fun to make, and even more fun to watch my son enjoy it...

Baby Quilt

I am now back into the swing of things. I have been sewing like mad lately to get a bunch of quilts done before my mom gets here (she's my quilt quilter!).

This is one that I did for my good friend who just had a beautiful baby girl...I don't usually take pictures of the backs of my quilts... but my friend who helped me take pictures MADE me...because it had something fun on the back :) Thanks Kellee...

Felt Hair Clips

My awesomely creative cousin sent me a little link on how to make cute Felt Hair Accessories :)
If you want to see the tutorial, just go here.
I was so excited because my Granni had just given me a BOX of tons of different colors of felt and I always have buttons around. Now I had something to do with all of them!
So, I started cutting and sewing. I let my daughter pick out the two colors and I let my son pick out the button to go with it! This is my very first finished Felt Hair Clip! And, the best part is I can make them as big or as small as I want. I actually sewed a bobby pin right onto the back of the felt...now I just need to find a place with smaller bobby pins for her tiny head :) I can't WAIT to make more and more and more!!!
Thanks Erin!!

Sneak Peek.....Halloween

I have been working on my kiddos Halloween costumes. I know it's early...but I'd rather get them done early than have to stress about it the day of!
Here is a sneaky look at my daughter's costume. She's 1, so it's hard to get a decent picture of it anyway...but I thought this was cute!!More to come as it's done...

Friendship Bag...

I saw this super cute tutorial for a "friendship bag". So, I thought I would try it out. It's actually quite a small bag... just the perfect size for some pencils or some fat quarters! I just love it and thought that I would share with you how much fun I had making it :)

Hexagon Quilt

My sewing machine has still yet to be pulled out of it's storage space in my basement. I am waiting until next week when I get some carpets to put down. In the mean-time I have to have something to keep me busy.
I am currently working on a hexagon quilt - ALL hand stitched...It's taking a BUTT-load of time, but turning out so cool. And, I have committed to using nothing but scraps...except for the green. So, this is my mostly scrappy-hand-quilted quilt... I'm sure it'll take a ton more time to finish, but it's fun to see some progress :)

Quilting Hiatus

I have not been keeping up with my sewing. I know, I should be ashamed. My family and I just moved into a new house in addition to my two kids having surgery. So, it will probably be another few weeks before I am able to start updating my sewing blog...
Sorry...but keep checking, I'll be back soon!!!

My Quilt Festival Entry

I decided to become a part of an on-line blog quilt festival.
Part of the festival is to post your favorite quilt ever done and it's "story"...here is mine

My favorite COMPLETED Quilt Project that I have ever done was a quilt that I made for my husbands father for Christmas a few years ago.

We had decided that year that we (and by we, I mean I) would make quilts for all his family for Christmas. So, I began with his siblings...a 11 year old girl and a 12 year old boy.

Frogs for a boy with a fun pattern...

Flowers and pink for a girl with a fun pattern...

These 2 were easy to decide on and went very quickly when I started sewing them.

Next I started working on his mom's quilt. We picked a BEAUTIFUL pattern from a book and I started sewing... It went very quickly and turned out even better than I could have imagined! I'll be honest, I wanted to keep this one for myself :)

Finally...to decide on a pattern for his dad - good luck!!! It was very difficult for me to find something that I really liked that looked "manly" enough for his dad. I should put in a side-note here that I have NEVER met my husband's father, so I don't know him all that well...so it was a guessing game on my part. First, I decided on colors...because I thought that would be the easy part - boy, was I wrong!! I FINALLY (after about an hour of searching in 1 store) decided on a black on black and a dark maroon. My husband agreed that they were great colors for his dad.
Next, I had to find a pattern. I looked and looked and couldn't find anything that I really liked for my father-in-law. So, I decided to just make one up...After completing it, my mom quilted it for me (thanks, mom) and we wrapped and sent them to my in-laws. He absolutely loved it...and it made ma happy to know that I had made it all myself - no pattern or copying for this one...Hope you all enjoy seeing it as much as I do - I love to look at my very own creation :)

Not Fair...

I wish that I could just sew and quilt and craft all the time!!!

Instead I have to be responsible...you know, wash the dishes, fold the laundry, and be a mom to my 2 kids...
Don't get me wrong, I absolutely LOVE being a mom and getting to stay home with my kids....but every now and then I wish I had a day where I could just sit at my sewing machine all day long with my iron within reach (not on the counter out of reach of my kids) and sew to my heart's content :) Maybe one day, when my kids are a bit older, I can have that day. As of right now...I have 7 "in-progress" quilts that I don't see an end in sight for...
Can't wait to finish them, though - and I'll share with everyone when they're done...

Placemats

We are trying to teach my son to use a place-mat when it's time to eat. But, I wanted to do something fun for our place-mats - not something boring or that everyone else already has.
So, I took ALL my Hawaiian fabric that I have collected over the years (thanks mom and sis) and started cutting. I put some wonder-under in between them to stiffen them up a little bit and started sewing!!
These are just the 4 of them that were done when I took the picture. When I'm all done I will have 10 Hawaiian Print place-mats...and they work GREAT!!!
